Fairview, UT

Fairview is a city in northern Sanpete County, with 1,203 residents in the 2020 census. Settlers from Mount Pleasant founded it in 1859 under the name North Bend; the higher ground and broad view of the valley led to the Fairview name in 1864. By 1900, the town sat at the center of an agricultural district with stores, hotels, sawmills, a planing mill, and homes tied to the valley and mountain timber country. The city remains the northern Sanpete community associated with the road into Skyline Drive and the surrounding mountain country. The Fairview Museum of History and Art combines the former Fairview Elementary School, old City Hall, a granary, a pioneer cabin, outdoor farm equipment, sculpture, and a history library on one campus.

Classes and events include woodworking, art, Lace Days, Pioneer Days, and a Christmas Forest. Fairview Elementary and North Sanpete schools keep education in the town's routine, and the city's Pioneer Day program brings rodeos, a parade, a vintage car show, a demolition derby, and a firemen's breakfast into the same week. Fairview is a farm-and-mountain town where the museum and July celebrations carry the old settlement forward.
