About Fargo

Fargo grew where two railroad lines crossed in northern Monroe County. By 1898 the St. Louis Southwestern Railway ran north-south through the town and the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad ran east-west; U.S. 49 later became the main road connection, with Brinkley four miles south and Hunter eight miles north. Interstate 40 passes three miles south at Exit 216. Fargo's regional connections run through Brinkley, whose public schools provide nearby high school and elementary facilities. Together, the rail crossing, U.S. 49, and I-40 keep Fargo a transportation settlement within Monroe County.
