Farmington, DE

Farmington got its start in the mid-1800s as a quiet railroad stop in southern Kent County, originally called Flatiron before taking on a name that fit its surrounding farm country. In its early days, local canning plants processed harvests from nearby orchards and fields, shipping goods out along the tracks. While those bustling operations are long gone, that relaxed, agricultural backdrop still shapes the character of the town.

Today, Farmington offers a very peaceful, small-town atmosphere surrounded by wide-open Delaware fields. Local students attend schools in the neighboring Woodbridge School District, and residents enjoy a quiet residential setting with quick access to Route 13 for easy drives up to Dover or south into Sussex County. Historic spots like the Tharp House still anchor the community, making it a comfortable landing place for anyone looking for a slow pace, friendly neighbors, and plenty of breathing room.
