About Farmington
Farmington is the county seat of St. Francois County in southeastern Missouri. William Murphy came from Kentucky to this former Spanish Louisiana territory in 1798, and the town grew into a regional center near the St. Francois River and the old lead-mining country. Modern Farmington has manufacturing employers, schools, health care, and services for surrounding towns. It feels like a practical Ozark-edge county seat, with courthouse history, rolling hills, and a stronger regional role than its population alone suggests.
