Faunsdale is a small town in Marengo County, Alabama, located in the Black Belt, a region historically developed for cotton plantation agriculture. The nearby Faunsdale Plantation is a historic site where planters held as many as 186 enslaved African Americans as laborers before the Civil War. Several former workers' cabins remain standing and are among the most significant examples of antebellum slave housing in Marengo County and across the state of Alabama.
