Fayette, UT

Fayette began as Warm Creek in 1861, when families from Springville planted crops along the stream in southern Sanpete County. The name changed after Orson Hyde suggested Fayette, honoring the New York town associated with the organization of the Latter-day Saint church. A post office operated from 1864 to 1966, and irrigation canals, springs, and farm lanes helped the settlement hold its place between Gunnison and the Sevier Valley.

The creek still runs through the center of town, and the old water story is everywhere: springs, canals, orchards, ranches, and the long road toward Gunnison. Water rights and shared canals made cooperation as important as the first homestead. Fayette's school once served as a local gathering point before southern Sanpete schools consolidated, while the town's 1948 incorporation gave its civic life a modern structure. Today the town is small and agricultural, with the Sanpete mountains around it and Warm Creek still providing the best way to understand why families stopped here in the first place.
