Fayetteville, AL

Fayetteville is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Talladega County, Alabama. The 2020 census counted 1,422 residents. A historical marker records the community's connection to Tennessee veterans who joined Andrew Jackson's force in 1814, then brought their families to Alabama after Indian removal in 1836 and named the settlement for their former Tennessee home. Fayetteville Academy was built in 1850.

Old Fayetteville Road and Caudies Lake Road meet at the marker, giving the CDP a clear crossroads in the county's farm and wooded country. A Fayetteville High School opened in 1920, adding a school chapter to the community's civic history. The old school name still helps place the settlement in local memory. Today the local map is made of scattered homes, roads, church and school landmarks, and the Talladega County countryside around them. Fayetteville carries a name tied to migration and military history, but its day-to-day shape is the familiar one of a small Alabama community organized around roads, fields, and a long-standing school tradition.
