Fenwick, CT

Fenwick is a Middlesex County borough within Old Saybrook, with 53 residents in the 2020 census. It occupies a peninsula at the mouth of the Connecticut River, where the river meets Long Island Sound, and a cove plus causeway separates the borough from Old Saybrook's town center. Two lighthouses mark the shoreline, while Connecticut Route 154 provides the main road over the bay. Most of Fenwick lies within a 195-acre historic district listed on the National Register in 1995; the district includes about 60 buildings and Fenwick Golf Course.

The nine-hole course dates to the late nineteenth century and is the oldest public golf course in Connecticut, with the full layout completed in 1896. The borough's shingle-style cottages, golf greens, lighthouses, and water edges form one compact setting. Fenwick's local life is organized around a small number of civic and recreational places, while its causeway keeps the borough physically tied to Old Saybrook. It is a coastal borough whose historic district and course occupy most of its narrow peninsula.
