About Ferndale

Ferndale is a Whatcom County city near the Nooksack River, north of Bellingham. A Lummi settlement was historically located on a prairie in the area, and early European settlers first called the place Jam because of a log jam on the river. Timber and agriculture shaped its early economy, while today Ferndale also serves as a bedroom community for Bellingham. The result is a small city with river history, rural edges, and close ties to northern Puget Sound.
