Ferron, UT

Ferron is an Emery County city of 1,474 people at the 2020 census, set along Ferron Creek in the Castle Valley country of east-central Utah. The city sits between the high Wasatch Plateau to the west and the San Rafael Swell to the east, with Utah State Route 10 running through the valley toward Castle Dale and Emery. Those distances tie Ferron to the wider county while keeping its own farm-and-ranch base close to the creek.

Settlement began in 1877, when three Mormon families answered a call to establish communities in Castle Valley. They arrived in November, built dugouts, and turned the creek bottom into farmland. Farming and stockraising remained the backbone of Ferron's economy; the city still maintains offices, utilities, a cemetery, business licensing, community spaces, and the annual Peach Days calendar. Ferron is a place where the landscape gives the town its shape: the creek carries the settlement, the plateau and swell set the horizon, and the county road keeps the rest of Emery County in reach.
