Fielding, UT

Fielding is a Box Elder County town that grew from scattered settlement into a planned agricultural village. The first community was called Hessville, and residents began organizing a formal townsite in the 1880s. The present location was selected near the Bear River Canal; the settlement was first known as South Plymouth before taking the Fielding name in honor of Joseph Fielding Smith. A frame building served as both church and school in the early years, with the Pink Schoolhouse becoming one of the town's remembered landmarks. A post office opened under the Fielding name in 1892, and the town incorporated in 1911. Fielding remains tied to the fields and canal country of northern Utah. It is a small Utah town whose grid grew from irrigation, church, school, and a carefully chosen townsite.
