About Fincastle

Fincastle is an unincorporated Campbell County community in Powell Valley, along State Route 63 between LaFollette and Speedwell. The place was once called Glade Springs, then took the Fincastle name from the Virginia home of many early settlers. Cumberland Mountain rises to the north, while Norris Lake lies a few miles south, giving the community a mountain-and-water geography even though the place has no separate municipal government. The road through the valley ties Fincastle to Campbell County's other small settlements and to the wider Cumberland Plateau. Fincastle is a place-name you understand by its surroundings: an old settlement name, a mountain wall, a nearby reservoir, and a state highway carrying the local traffic. It remains a rural Tennessee address with the geography doing most of the talking.
