Set about six miles inland from Lake Superior's North Shore, Finland is a quiet Northwoods community with deep roots and a strong independent streak. Finnish immigrants settled the area in the early 1900s, establishing a town that still centers around local gatherings and the historic Finland Co-op, Minnesota's longest-running cooperative general store. The Baptism River flows right past town, and the surrounding Finland State Forest provides endless room to roam. The Superior Hiking Trail runs nearby, along with popular trout fishing spots and miles of trails for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
