Fish Springs, NV

Fish Springs is a Douglas County census-designated place on the east side of Carson Valley, seven miles east of Minden. The 2020 census counted 684 residents. The county's community plan covers about 12,197 acres, most of it forest and range land, with rural homes on lots generally between one and ten acres and a small amount of agriculture. The Pine Nut Range separates the community from the valley floor, so Fish Springs has a pattern of scattered homes and roads leading toward the canyon.

The name comes from Fritz Elges, who built a covered dugout reservoir for raising carp. Today the only community facilities identified in the county plan are the Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Department and two county-owned parcels at the entrance to the canyon. Homes, range land, a fire station, and the road into the canyon define the local map. Fish Springs is a rural planning area as much as a named settlement, with large tracts and scattered residences doing most of the work of making the place.
