Florham Park, NJ

Florham Park gets its unique name from two Gilded Age estates: "Florham," created by Florence Vanderbilt and Hamilton Twombly from a blend of their first names, and neighboring "Brooklake Park." That historic elegance still shapes the town today. The centerpiece is the Twomblys' magnificent 100-room brick mansion, set on lush grounds originally planned with help from Frederick Law Olmsted's landscape firm. Today, it serves as the heart of Fairleigh Dickinson University's local campus, giving the borough a scenic, collegiate backdrop that you notice the moment you drive through.

Over the decades, those sprawling estate grounds evolved into a well-balanced Morris County suburb. Along with the university campus, parts of the former farmland became The Green at Florham Park, a modern business park home to BASF's North American headquarters and the training facility for the New York Jets. Even with major employers in town, the residential neighborhoods feel quiet, leafy, and distinctly suburban. Covering just over seven square miles, the borough offers a welcoming mix of established single-family homes, upscale townhouses, and quick access to neighboring hubs like Morristown and Madison.

Outdoor recreation is a major draw for families settling here. Emmett Park serves as a central gathering spot, bringing together Borough Hall, the town library, sports courts, walking paths, a playground, and the popular municipal pool. Across town, the 113-acre Volunteers Park offers lighted turf athletic fields, basketball courts, a community garden, and open nature trails preserved for walking and birdwatching.
