Flower Mound, TX

Flower Mound gets its name from an actual wildflower-covered hill rising right in the middle of town. Early settlers used the land for hay but never plowed it, allowing native prairie grasses and dozens of wildflower species to thrive for generations. Today, even as modern neighborhoods and shopping centers have grown up around it, the Mound remains a beloved local landmark and a reminder of the area's natural roots. Just to the south, Grapevine Lake adds miles of shoreline, giving the community a scenic backdrop and plenty of outdoor space.

When the Dallas-Fort Worth region began expanding rapidly in the 1990s, Flower Mound adopted smart growth policies to protect its open, green character. The town established strict guidelines for tree preservation, park space, and infrastructure to manage development responsibly. You can see those efforts clearly on the west side of town in the Cross Timbers area. Strict zoning keeps lots here spacious, often two acres or larger, creating a quiet, semi-rural setting with custom estates, horse properties, and plenty of breathing room.

For residents who prefer a more walkable vibe, the town also offers lively shopping and dining districts. The River Walk area features riverside paths, medical offices, and restaurants centered around tree-lined water channels. Near the southern border, Lakeside DFW sits along Grapevine Lake, only ten minutes from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. It serves as a popular gathering spot filled with patio dining, coffee shops, local boutiques, a movie theater, and a boardwalk with great sunset views.

Recreation on the water is a central part of daily life. Twin Coves Park on the north shore of the lake offers furnished cabins, RV and tent sites, hiking trails, kayak rentals, and a boat ramp for weekend getaways. Community events happen year-round, including Friday night outdoor concerts at Lakeside, seasonal 5Ks, and family holiday celebrations. Between its top-tier schools, generous parks, and easy airport access, Flower Mound provides a balanced and welcoming home for newcomers.
