Folsom, LA

Folsom is a St. Tammany Parish village on Louisiana Highway 25, about 12 miles north-northwest of Covington. The 2020 census counted 769 residents. Folsom Elementary serves the village’s younger students, and the parish road connects the town to Covington and the rest of the Northshore. Around the village, horse farms, plant nurseries, and the Global Wildlife Center give the local economy a distinctive agricultural and animal-oriented edge alongside ordinary village services. The village’s calendar, school routes, and daily errands all run through that same corridor.

Folsom began in 1904 at the Alma Post Office, when founder George N. Fendlason established a settlement named for Frances Folsom Cleveland. A depot arrived the next year, and the logging community soon had general stores, a drugstore, barbershop, meat market, and hotel. Folsom incorporated in 1915. The old business list has changed, but the pattern remains recognizable: Highway 25, schools, local events, and land-based businesses tie the village to Covington while keeping its own name on the Northshore map.
