Foreston, MN

Foreston is a Mille Lacs County city on Minnesota Highway 23, three miles southwest of Milaca and about 26 miles northeast of St. Cloud. The West Branch of the Rum River runs through the northern part of town, and the city's name comes from the forests near the original townsite. A post office has operated here since 1889, so the place has long been a mail-and-road stop rather than a courthouse center; Milaca remains the county seat.

That distinction matters when picturing Foreston. The city is small, with the highway doing much of the connecting work and the river and wooded landscape giving the community its setting. The road, river, and woods all sit close to the town's short local map. Milaca supplies county services and larger errands, while St. Cloud is the regional reference point farther southwest.
