Forestville CDP (Butler County), PA

Forestville is an unincorporated census-designated place in southern Mercer Township, Butler County, a small place with a name that still carries the marks of the coal era. The 1883 county history called it "The Blocks" and described it as a mining village near the S. & A. Railroad, with a post office and two stores. The later local record calls it a coal town whose company-built houses remained after many miners moved to other fields. Forestville's story is therefore less about a formal downtown than about work, rail, and the homes left around them.

Mercer Township is the broader frame: it surrounds Harrisville Borough and reaches the Butler County line, while Forestville sits toward the township's southern end. A Forestville Methodist congregation kept its own records from 1895 onward and was served by Harrisville pastors, another sign of how the hamlet's institutions connected to the nearest larger places. Today the local map is rural Mercer Township, with the old mining settlement and church history still giving the community its identity.
