Fountain Hills, AZ

Fountain Park’s namesake jet can send water as high as 560 feet above Fountain Hills. The Maricopa County town lies at the eastern edge of the Phoenix urban area, 31 miles northeast of downtown and beside the southern McDowell Mountains. It borders Scottsdale, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, and the Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community; 23,820 people lived there in 2020. Yavapai people occupied the area before the town’s development, and petroglyphs remain near the Dixie Mine. In the early twentieth century, much of present-day Fountain Hills and McDowell Mountain Regional Park belonged to the Pemberton, later P-Bar, Ranch. Fountain Hills has a large public-art collection and received International Dark Sky Community designation in 2018, aided by the surrounding tribal lands and regional park.
