Fox Chase, KY

Fox Chase is a home rule-class city in northern Bullitt County, sixteen miles south of downtown Louisville, but its history is much more farm than suburb. John Turnstall Rogers bought 400 acres in 1852, and the land stayed in his family for more than a century. A 250-acre portion later became Fox Chase. The name came from the Chase family and the red foxes that ranged across the former farm, not from some invented neighborhood theme.

The 1950s quarry added another layer, supplying rock for the Kentucky Turnpike, later Interstate 65. In the 1970s the farm became a residential development, and Fox Chase incorporated in 1983 to keep its own identity as nearby cities grew. Today the city’s downtown is really this residential street network, not an older commercial square. The city reads as homes and streets laid across old farm ground, with Rogers Cemetery and the highway close by. The local story begins with family land, foxes, and a quarry before it ever reaches Louisville’s suburban edge.
