Frackville, PA

Frackville is a Schuylkill County borough on the north slope of Broad Mountain, with 3,860 residents in the 2020 census. It sits at the intersection of Interstate 81 and Pennsylvania Route 61, about 60 miles southwest of Scranton, and drains toward Mahanoy Creek. The borough formed in 1876 when Frackville and Mountain City merged, leaving "Mountain City" as a nickname that still appears in local history. Broad Mountain is the physical backdrop and the old coal landscape is close by: Mahanoy Plane once worked the mountain's northern foot. Today the Frackville Free Public Library on North Lehigh Avenue, borough parks and recreation, and weekly events give the center its recurring civic stops. The local school district is North Schuylkill. Frackville is a mountain-foot borough with I-81 at the door, coal-era history overhead, and everyday services gathered around the old town grid.
