About Franklin
Franklin is Robertson County’s seat in the Brazos Valley, near the geographic center of the county. The present city grew from Morgan, a railroad community established in the early 1870s; when Texas already had a post office named Morgan, residents changed the name to Franklin in 1879. The white limestone courthouse, completed in 1882, still gives the town its clearest visual marker, and the Pridgeon Community Center and Visitor Center add a more recent civic stop. U.S. 79 runs through the city, while branches of three creeks drain the surrounding upland prairie. The local shorthand is courthouse, railroad town, county seat, and creek-cut prairie.
