Frederick, OK

Frederick is the Tillman County seat in southwestern Oklahoma, with 3,468 residents at the 2020 census. Wheat, cotton, cattle, and dairies keep the agricultural side of the town visible, while U.S. 183 and State Highway 5 meet at the edge of town. Frederick Regional Airport gives the place an unexpected second chapter. It opened in 1942 as Frederick Army Airfield, trained pilots during World War II, and still has military hangars that now house the World War II Airborne Demonstration Team.

The town's other stories are easier to find downtown. Frederick's Carnegie-funded public library has been serving readers since 1915, and the Oklahoma Cotton Festival returns each September to the crop that shaped the local economy. Great Plains Technology Center and Frederick Public Schools add an education network, while Lake Frederick sits about fifteen miles northeast. Even Theodore Roosevelt passed through in 1905 during a wolf hunt. Frederick is a county-seat and farm town with an old airfield tucked into its civic story, which is a pretty good mix for one stop on the southwest Oklahoma map.
