About Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg is a Chickasaw County city whose local history has a schoolhouse with a second life. Frederick Padden platted the village in 1856, and the city incorporated in 1894, but one of the most memorable buildings arrived much later: the 1904 Chickasaw Country District No. 1 schoolhouse was moved into town in 2002 after serving as a school, then a farm granary. Its belfry now sits near the Plum Creek Bike and Nature Trail and other city recreation spots. Students belong to Sumner-Fredericksburg Community School District, with the high school in Sumner. Fredericksburg is a northeast Iowa place where an old one-room school still gives the town a physical link to the county's earlier farm communities.
