Galeton, PA

Galeton is a Potter County borough in north-central Pennsylvania, set in a mountain valley near Berger Lake and Cherry Springs State Park. The town's early settlers arrived around 1810–15, and later logging, sawmills, and railroads turned the surrounding Pine Creek country into a working landscape. Galeton's position along Scenic Route 6 and the forested hills gives it a strong relationship with the roads and waterways around it. The borough is almost entirely surrounded by Pike Township, with West Branch Township touching its southwestern corner.

Potter County's timber boom helped Galeton grow, then the decline of logging pushed the county toward farming, tourism, and recreation. The borough now keeps its own municipal offices, water and sewer services, police department, and school tradition, with the Galeton Tigers as a familiar local name. Cherry Springs State Park, known for its dark night skies, sits nearby in the wider county landscape, while Berger Lake sits beside the borough's own park setting. Galeton feels like a town shaped by the mountains: work came from the woods, and the woods remain close at every edge.
