About Gallatin

Gallatin is Daviess County’s seat, founded in 1837 and named for Albert Gallatin, the longtime U.S. Treasury secretary. Missouri Routes 6 and 13 meet in town, while the Grand River passes about a mile east. Grand River College moved to Gallatin in 1892 and operated until a fire closed it in 1910, giving the small county seat a short but memorable college chapter. Gallatin is a north Missouri crossroads with a courthouse role, a river nearby, and a name borrowed from one of the country’s early financial architects.
