About Gallup
Gallup is a rail and Route 66 city in northwestern New Mexico, founded in 1881 as a railhead for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. It is closely tied to Navajo, Zuni, Hopi, and other Native communities, and the annual Intertribal Ceremonial has long made that regional role visible. Route 66 passed through town and even put Gallup in the song. Gallup feels high-desert, colorful, and complicated, with trading posts, motels, trains, red rock, and Native arts all part of the streetscape.
