About Garden Plain
Garden Plain began as a railroad place: the Wichita and Western line from Wichita toward Kingman gave the settlement its start, the post office opened in 1883, and the city incorporated in 1902. Today the city occupies a compact piece of western Sedgwick County. City Hall on North Main and the Garden Plain schools give the town its everyday reference points. Garden Plain Elementary and Garden Plain High School belong to Renwick USD 267, a district whose board schedules some meetings in the high school's auditorium and library. The landmarks are easy to connect: a railroad origin, a Main Street city office, and school buildings at the center of the local district.
