Gaylord, MN

Gaylord is the Sibley County seat, a small Minnesota city spread along the shore of Titlow Lake about 65 miles west-southwest of Minneapolis–St. Paul. The lake gives the place a clear geographic center, while the county-seat role keeps Gaylord tied to the surrounding farm country. The 2020 census counted 2,273 residents, so this is a town-sized place with a bit more civic traffic than its population alone might suggest.

The route into Gaylord runs through an older layer of Minnesota history. A trail used by Dakota travelers toward the Dakota Territory passed through the future town site in the 1850s; the town was platted in 1881 and named for Edward W. Gaylord. Today, MN 5, MN 19, and MN 22 meet the practical needs of the area, and Sibley East schools serve local families.
