Genesee, ID

Genesee is a Latah County city in Idaho's Palouse country, about 14 miles south of Moscow and roughly halfway to Lewiston, with 1,030 residents in the 2020 census. The city was the county's first permanent settlement, took its name from New York's Genesee region, and incorporated in 1889. Grain production remains the defining working landscape: the town sits among rolling fields and farm businesses that reach across the Palouse. The local center is compact but useful. City Hall, the library, and the Senior Citizen Center sit close together, with churches and the Genesee school system filling in the civic map. The Genesee Recreation District maintains the Mayor Steve Odenborg Memorial Sunset Trail on an old road at the north end of Jackson Street, and the city hosts Community Days. Genesee is a Palouse farm town with Moscow and Lewiston nearby, where grain fields, school, library, and a short local trail fit into one small grid.
