About George
George is a Lyon County city along the Little Rock River, in the farm country of northwest Iowa. The river and the town's name provide the first orientation, but the current community map is built from shared institutions. George and nearby Little Rock belong to the George-Little Rock Community School District, which formed in 1990 when the two school systems merged. George has an elementary school and George-Little Rock Senior High School, making the city a school center for the surrounding rural area.
The city also has a 3.97-mile recreational trail that loops around town, passes Locker Park and the pond, follows Rio Grande Creek, and crosses near the Little Rock River. Benches and memorial plaques turn the route into a community project as much as a walking or biking path. A library, swimming pool, community rooms, churches, clubs, and a Freedom Rock for Lyon County add to the local map. George feels like a place that has built its own connective tissue: a river, a shared school district, a loop trail, and a set of local gathering points that keep the small city stitched together.
