About Georgetown

Georgetown is a small, quiet Gold Rush town perched on the Georgetown Divide in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Home to around 2,300 people, the community dates back to the 1849 mining boom, when it was playfully nicknamed Growlersburg. After a fire wiped out the original canyon settlement in 1852, residents rebuilt on a ridge with an unusually wide Main Street that still gives the downtown area its distinctive, open feel today.
