Georgetown has grown rapidly over the last couple of decades, evolving from a quiet Hill Country stop into one of the most popular places to move in Central Texas. Much of that expansion came with the development of Sun City Texas on the west side of town. As a massive master-planned community for active adults, Sun City brought thousands of new residents along with its own golf courses, recreation centers, and miles of trails. Alongside all the newer neighborhoods across the city, the heart of Georgetown remains its historic downtown. The courthouse square features a beautifully restored century-old county courthouse surrounded by local shops and eateries, with Southwestern University, the oldest university in Texas, sitting just a few blocks to the east.

Downtown Georgetown offers plenty to do throughout the week. The historic square stays lively with dining, cozy coffee spots, and venues like the Palace Theatre, the local arts center, and the Williamson Museum. Located about thirty miles north of Austin along Interstate 35, Georgetown gives residents easy access to the capital city while maintaining a self-sufficient local economy. You will find solid job opportunities right in town across healthcare, education, life sciences, and light manufacturing. Major employers include St. David's Georgetown Hospital, regional medical networks, county offices, and Southwestern University, allowing many residents to skip the Austin commute entirely.

Outdoor recreation is another major draw for newcomers. The North and South forks of the San Gabriel River wind through the city, flanked by paved hike-and-bike paths like the Randy Morrow Trail. Locals frequently spend sunny afternoons swimming at Blue Hole, a scenic limestone lagoon near downtown, or relaxing under the pecan trees at the 180-acre San Gabriel Park. Community traditions bring everyone together throughout the year, highlighted by the Red Poppy Festival every spring. Celebrating Georgetown's status as the Red Poppy Capital of Texas, the three-day street festival fills the downtown square with free live concerts, artisan booths, a parade, and a classic car show.
