About Germantown
Germantown is a village in Washington County and part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It surrounds the separate Town of Germantown and has grown into a suburban community of about twenty thousand people. The area also has deeper history as Potawatomi land, surrendered to the United States through the 1833 Treaty of Chicago, with some Potawatomi people later remaining or returning rather than leaving Wisconsin permanently. Local schools are operated by the Germantown School District, with private Lutheran and Catholic grade schools also in the village.
