Gibson, GA

Gibson is the Glascock County seat in east-central Georgia, where the 2020 census counted 630 residents. The city was founded in 1858 as the seat of the newly formed county, incorporated as a town in 1913, and incorporated as a city in 1943. It took its name from Judge William Gibson, who donated $500 toward the county's first courthouse. Georgia State Routes 102 and 171 cross through the center.

The present Glascock County Courthouse was built in 1919, expanded in 1942, and remains listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The courthouse stands on Main Street, and the county's farms and forests meet the city's crossroads. The Ogeechee River forms part of the county's western boundary, while Rocky Comfort Creek adds another waterway used for fishing and camping. The Glascock County School District carries students from preschool through twelfth grade in a consolidated school. Gibson brings courthouse, highway, school, and river connections together in one small Georgia county seat.
