Gilt Edge, TN

Gilt Edge is a Tipton County city at the junction of State Routes 59 and 178, about ten miles southwest of Covington and four miles east of the Mississippi River. The 2020 census counted 476 residents. Route 59 runs from the river through the rural county and on toward Covington, while Route 178 meets it at Gilt Edge, giving the small city a crossroads role out of proportion to its size. Burlison lies directly east, and Munford is about seven miles south.

Gilt Edge became a municipality in 1967 under Tennessee's general-law manager-commission framework. Its downtown and town hall remain the civic center, with one municipal employee and a monthly meeting schedule that reflects the scale of local government. The surrounding county is shaped by cotton fields, river bluffs, and the Memphis region's reach, but Gilt Edge keeps a separate town identity at the intersection. It is a small West Tennessee city where two state routes, a rural downtown, and the Mississippi River's nearby influence define the map.
