About Glen Ellyn
Stacy’s Tavern was built in 1846 at a five-cornered intersection as a stagecoach stop between Chicago and the Fox River Valley. The DuPage County village lies about 24 miles west of downtown Chicago and had 28,846 residents in the 2020 census. Its present name was in use by 1889, when local leaders dammed a stream to create Lake Glen Ellyn. The Glen Ellyn Park District, established in 1919, now manages the Lake Ellyn Boathouse, Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, and a network of parks and recreation buildings. The main campus of College of DuPage is also in Glen Ellyn.
