Glen Park, NY

Glen Park is a Jefferson County village on the Black River, with 452 residents in the 2020 census. It straddles the towns of Brownville and Pamelia immediately northwest of Watertown, with NY 12E connecting the village to both. The river forms the southern edge, while the old paper-mill site and a hydroelectric facility give Glen Park a working-industrial history that remains visible in the landscape. General Brown Central School District serves local students.

Glen Park incorporated in 1893 after growing around the Remington Paper Company. From 1890 to 1904, the Watertown and Brownville Street Railway brought thousands of visitors to an amusement and picnic park that locals called the “Coney Island of the North Country.” Paper mills and businesses later came and went, and state records describe the removal of the collapsed Remington mill structure in 2022. The village’s private hydro facility now has 32.65 megawatts of capacity. Glen Park is a New York river village where paper, streetcars, recreation, and power follow the same Black River corridor.
