About Glen St. Mary

Glen St. Mary is a small Baker County town on U.S. 90, with Interstate 10 passing just south at Exit 333. Jacksonville supplies the metro label, but the local bearings are more north Florida: Route 90 through the center, county roads reaching farms and timberland, and Baker County School District serving the town. The road is the practical seam between the town’s older commercial center and the wider rural landscape.

Dollar General, Glen St. Mary

The name is tied to horticulture. The Glen St. Mary Nursery grew from George Taber’s work and became known for plants that traveled far beyond north Florida, including Satsuma oranges, kumquats, dogwoods, magnolias, and azaleas. Around the turn of the twentieth century, the town also had a rail depot, cotton and lumber mills, a strawberry farm, stores, churches, and boarding houses. The nursery’s old reach is the most distinctive local legacy. Put Glen St. Mary on the U.S. 90–I-10 line, then add the Taber nursery story: a rural Baker County town remembered for the plants it helped spread.
