About Glencoe

Glencoe is a census-designated place in Volusia County, just inland from the Indian River north of New Smyrna Beach. The 2020 census counted 2,170 residents. Its local name reaches back to the years after the Civil War, when families who stayed in the New Smyrna area formed a small settlement known as Glencoe. The Coe family became part of that history, and the name still appears on neighborhood maps, roads, and local historical displays.

Today's Glencoe is a residential community with a strong connection to the wider New Smyrna area. The Indian River, nearby citrus groves, and the old Florida road network give it a different rhythm from the beachside city to the east. New Glencoe neighborhood events and the Glencoe-Geiger Cemetery keep the name visible, while the New Smyrna Museum of History places the community inside the region's longer story. Glencoe is a small inland corner with a name that has stayed put through several versions of coastal Florida.
