Glenwood, UT

Glenwood is a Sevier County town established by Mormon pioneers in 1863, first called Glencoe or Glen Cove. The name changed to Glenwood after Orson Hyde visited in 1864, and a stone fort went up two years later. The town's water story is just as specific: the Mill Canyon-Sage Flat project above Glenwood was completed in 1959 as the first project under the federal Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act. That flood-control work was built into the place's memory after a major flood hit during the final stages. Glenwood is central Utah in pioneer-settlement form, with a changed name, a stone fort, and a watershed always part of the conversation.
