Glyndon, MN

Glyndon was laid out as a Northern Pacific railway village in 1872, and the railroad's naming choice reached back to Laura Catherine Redden Searing, a poet who wrote as Howard Glyndon. That origin still reads in the city's placement on U.S. 10 between Dilworth and Hawley and on the route between the Fargo-Moorhead area and western Clay County. The city was organized in 1875, incorporated in 1881, and reincorporated in 1908.

Present-day Glyndon mixes town-scale gathering places with a large piece of nearby prairie. Johnson Park has a sheltered picnic area, restrooms, playground, and sand volleyball court; the Glyndon Community Center on Partridge Avenue handles larger events. Buffalo River State Park lies along the Buffalo River just south of Highway 10, with river trails, camping, and tallgrass prairie; a 2025 state planning process considered improvements to fishing, boating, camping, and trails. Glyndon still makes sense as a railroad town whose daily map runs from U.S. 10 storefronts to the river and prairie beyond town.
