About Gore

Gore is a Sequoyah County town on the lower Illinois River, about seven miles from Lake Tenkiller and close to the Arkansas River. It began as Campbell, a settlement tied to a ferry and trading post, then grew with the railroad before taking the Gore name in 1909. Fishing is the modern calling card, with rainbow trout stocked along the Illinois. Gore is eastern Oklahoma in a water-and-rail arrangement: two rivers, a big lake nearby, an old railroad town, and enough fish to earn a title.
