About Gorham

Gorham is a Cumberland County community west of Portland, with both a village center and a larger town around it. Its early growth included a sawmill established by John Gorham at Little River in 1743, and the name still reaches back to that colonial-era settlement. Today Gorham is known partly for the University of Southern Maine campus, which gives the town a college presence without making it feel urban. It feels like a Portland-area place with schools, farms, commuter roads, and a real Maine town center.
