About Gower
Gower is a Missouri city in Buchanan and Clinton counties, on the northwestern edge of the Kansas City area. The 2020 census counted 1,533 residents. The county line gives the town an unusual metro split: the Buchanan County side looks toward St. Joseph, while the Clinton County side belongs to the Kansas City metro. The city took its name from A. G. Gower, a railroad man, and that rail-era naming still gives the place a crossroads feel. The boundary is easy to miss from the road; it changes which metro label follows the address.
East Buchanan C-1 School District is headquartered on Smith Street, with elementary, middle, and high school life tied closely to Gower. A city park and municipal pool sit near the center, and Highway 169 carries the main route toward St. Joseph and Kansas City. Gower's local scoop is a small city straddling two county maps and two metro definitions, with its school campus, park, and highway doing most of the everyday organizing.
