About Grand Pass
Grand Pass sits on a terrace between the Missouri River bottoms and the Salt Fork, a setting that gave the village its name and guided the Great Osage Trail. The old route later became part of the Santa Fe Trail, and wagon ruts remain in the community cemetery at the village's east edge. The Gumbo Point Archeological Site adds a much older layer to the surrounding ground. Schooling follows Santa Fe R-X, whose elementary and high schools are in Alma, so the village's present institutional connection reaches beyond its local streets. Grand Pass keeps a long travel corridor visible through a cemetery, a trail segment, and the roads that cross the river country.
