About Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids is a city and the county seat of Itasca County, Minnesota, situated along the Mississippi River. The city takes its name from a six-mile stretch of rapids that marked the uppermost limit of practical steamboat travel in the nineteenth century, now submerged beneath the dam of the UPM paper mill. The Forest History Center, a state historic site and living history museum recreating a turn-of-the-century logging camp, is located in the city.
