Grand Ridge, FL

Grand Ridge sits at the meeting of U.S. 90 and State Road 69, about fifteen miles east of Marianna in Jackson County. The town was settled in 1881, incorporated in 1951, and named for Grand Ridge, Illinois, the former home of the Porter family tied to its founding. The 2020 census counted 882 residents. With a few stores, a school, volunteer fire service, and town water and wastewater, Grand Ridge works as a crossroads community for the eastern part of the county.

John Thomas Porter Park is the town's recreational center, with softball fields and ongoing recreation improvements, while Ocheesee Pond gives the area a public boat-ramp stop on the county's parks map. The town's Christmas parade runs from Highway 69 and Hall Street to the park, and the annual Pecan Festival adds another hometown gathering. Grand Ridge's streets connect farms, school grounds, town hall, and recreation space in a simple north-south/east-west pattern. It is a small Panhandle town whose identity comes from being a place people pass through and a place they return to for events.
