Grangerland, TX

Grangerland is an unincorporated Montgomery County community and census-designated place at the meeting of Farm Roads 3083 and 2090, about thirty miles north of Houston and ten miles southeast of Conroe. The 2020 census counted 754 residents. Early settlers farmed cotton and cut timber, but the first successful Conroe oilfield well in late 1931 changed the pace of the area. Don D. Granger built thirty-two houses for oil workers in 1932, creating a development first known as Granger's Camp. Stores, churches, and a community center followed as the camp grew into Grangerland.

The oil boom settled down, but oil and timber continued to support the area, and subdivisions built in the 1970s and 1980s pulled Grangerland into the commuter map for Houston and Conroe. Students attend Conroe Independent School District schools, with Lone Star College serving as the nearby higher-education system. Grangerland never incorporated, so its boundaries and civic life remain tied to the county and school district rather than a town hall. The place still carries its original layers: cotton fields, an oil-worker camp, paved roads, and newer homes spread along the same east Montgomery County crossroads.
